The Wild Rose Quilters is a non-structured group of quilters that formed about 25 years ago, and has been meeting nearly every week since. The numbers fluctuate wildly, and we used to meet mostly in one another’s homes. Recently, we have met at the Mullis Center. Often we have over 25 attending; there are about 80 women who have come at one time or another. You may have noticed that Wild Rose Quilters has a plaque imbedded in the sidewalk at the Mullis Center and wondered “just who are these people?”
WRQ donates to charitable organizations and hosts a quilt show at the San Juan Community Theater each June.
We work mostly on our own projects, but the group is wonderful about sharing ideas, knowledge, material, tools, and giving our opinions. Sometimes getting others’ input is just the catalyst we need to get back to a project that we have put on the shelf for a while. Most who attend bring handwork, like hand stitching, binding, knitting, embroidery, etc., and a weekly ‘Chronicle’ is emailed to help everyone keep in touch with each other and our projects.
Wild Rose Quilters meet at the Mullis Center, 589 Nash St, Friday Harbor, Wednesday evenings from 4 p.m. until about 6 p.m. If you would like to join in, (no membership required), or for more information, contact Krispi Staude at 378-2434 or firstname.lastname@example.org
FYI – While there is no cost to join, members usually donate $1 per Wed attended to the Mullis Center as a thank you for allowing us to use their space. Because the building is owned by the 501c3 nonprofit “Senior Services Council of San Juan County, Inc.” (EIN #91-1057199), this group is considered a program of the SSCSJC and is open to the public at large.
